Kahhori will be a new twist on Marvel’s TV formula

Marvel Studios’ “What If…?” animated series is introducing a new superhero in its second season: Kahhori, a Mohawk woman. This character has no comic book origins and will make her first appearance in the show. The series reimagines famous events from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, creating a multiverse of infinite possibilities. In this season, Kahhori’s story will take center stage as the Tesseract lands in the sovereign Haudenosaunee Confederacy before America’s colonization. The event leads Kahhori on a quest to discover her power as the Tesseract transforms a lake into a gateway to the stars. The episode was created in close collaboration with members of the Mohawk Nation to ensure cultural authenticity, and it takes place in the Mohawk language. Kahhori’s debut adventure will focus on her recruiting allies to save her people and change history’s course. “What If…?” production team worked with the Mohawk Nation to design Kahhori’s look and incorporate traditional Mohawk music into the score. This collaboration with the Mohawk Nation provides an original corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with storylines for new Indigenous heroes, written from a place of respect for past generations and optimism for future ones. Kahhori marks a significant addition to the pantheon of Marvel Super Heroes, with her name meaning “she stirs the forest” or “someone who motivates those around her” in Mohawk.
